Even A Diva Knows, Sex Ain't Love, But One Good Interview Though....

Many of you know that I've been doing some PR and Social work for indie films for the last few years and well I've been working with an indie filmmaker by the name of Will Adams on the premiere of his new film, Sex Ain't Love. Now let me admit I was having some anxiety about the results and how things were going until

It started off with Damon Williams mentioning the movie on the Tom Joyner Morning show

in his weekly segment, Seriously Ignorant News. We sold out of tickets to the premiere shortly after that! A sista was feeling blessed! Listen here

Well after that segment aired I was like welp there are just 2 days left to the premiere and no news people have contacted me about doing an interview about the movie or my client! At this point I'm still feeling blessed but beginning to be stressed! But I decide to dig in my heels and send one more e-mail and this time I would use the clip from the Tom Joyner show. So I crafted a fabulous e-mail that included the previous pitch along with the new clip from Tom Joyner show and with in 15 minutes I was contacted by Good Day Chicago!

Watch the video of Will and Damon below!

So here are a few videos from this weekends events!

This one is of my client Aubrey Marquez as he struts his stuff on the Red Carpet at the

Englewood International Film Festival!! He is a Brand Ambassador for another client

I Think I Found The Perfect .....

OMG !! Y'all I think I found the perfect job!

So everyone knows that I am slightly hair challenged, right?  After taking out my braids that I wore from the time I gave birth to my son until 2011; learning to do my hair and look good for 8 consecutive hours is just a bit much! Especially in this Hotlanta humidity!

I know I know some of you are saying what does that have to do with the "perfect job"?  EVERYTHING! Last week I went on a job interview at McBride Research in Decatur, Georgia. now when the recruiter first told me about the job I was like, Mc Bride Research what kind of gadgets do they make?  But to my surprise they didn’t make gadgets! They make Hair Care products!! And for African American women at that! I was like this could get interesting so I do what I always do when I have hair issues I reached out to the “Server set” aka 20 of my 30 first cousins on my mother’s side of the family. I love how things have progressed over the years no more sending a group message over AT&T’s voicemail system I pulled out my phone and sent a text that went to our family’s facebook page and everyone’s cell phones! Yep I turned to my cousins or sister cousins as we like to say because we’re close like sisters. Well y’all know that about 8 of them do hair professionally and well the other 12 have great looking hair just because. I must have gotten my hair handling skill sets from the Rogers side….sigh.. anyhoo I sent out the call for help to find out about McBride Research and their signature product Design Essentials. Well the first few responses were very sarcastic! Three of the “cousins” were like really KK…seriously? And then my cousin Misti posted to the page, “look dumb dumb!” Those are the products that I used in your hair back in January when I took your weave down! Remember you said,”OMG my hair smells like peppermint pops”. Yes y’all I really said that! Side eye roll to Misti for remembering and busting me out on the family FB page.

So then I posted, Why are they not more popular with the “hair challenged” sista’s like me?  Every last one of the cousins started posting these crazy emoticons! Not really sure what that was about…I tell ya family can be rough on you. I mean do I give them the side eye roll when they ask me crazy questions about tech stuff?! _______________ 0__O Ok so yeah sometimes I do but anyhoo. It’s not about me! Well yeah it is…so ok they tell me that this stuff is better than anything the other major African American Hair Care companies are offering! As a matter of fact 16 out of 20 cousins say the only thing they buy from the other companies is the HOT SIX Oil!  O yeah 4 of my cousins that live in the Southeast part of the country, agreed to do my hair for free if I got them a sample of this stuff!

Fast forward to the day of the interview. I’m nervous but I’m armed with all my social media and tech info plus the Haute Hair Care gossip from the “Server set”.

When I get there the office is nice but let me tell you it smells Divine in there. Just like peppermint pops! I give the receptionist my name and YES her hair was FABULOUS!  She took my name and asked me to be seated while she contacted the ladies who would be interviewing me.In just a few minutes out walks Shana one of the interviewers and immediately I was envious! Why you ask? Because she is rocking braids! O how I so desperately want to be in Corporate America with my braids back! Not sure why the rule is to not be that ethnic until after you’ve been there six weeks! I mean really if they hate my hair that much they’ll just find an excuse to fire me anyway right?? But yes she was rockin’ braids. We chatted for a while then comes in Polly the other interviewer and she has a great natural do as well. I feel like a fish out of water with this weave! When it was all said and done I dazzled them (or at least I think I did) with all of my Social Media and Social Tech knowledge. I tell them that the “Server set” loves their products and an hour ½ later the interview is over! But on my way out I got gifts! That’s right I said gifts!  I got a gorgeous designer gift bag full of goodies and as luck would have it one of my cousins made a surprise visit and HOOKED UP MY HAIR!!

I hope you enjoy the picture of my peppermint pop smelling hair! And let’s all pray I get the job! Because it will be my personal mission to make sure this stuff is not a “Stylists Secret” but that even the hair challenged such as myself get to have hair that smells like the yummy peppermint pops, all the time!  I know you're probably saying wait wait you haven't told us why this is the perfect job! Well here it is that at 40+, I may just finally learn to take care of my hair and use the right products to keep it looking good! Without alienating the “Server set”

*Note the interviewers names have been changed to protect their privacy.

Google as a Motivational tool?

Today I saw a post on facebook that said to go to Google and enter your name and then place "is a" after it. I did and below is what came up
an the Urban Dictionary!

Karen is the perfect woman. She has no flaw. She's funny, sweet, smart as hell, and above all, she is extremely gorgeous. She doesn't let anyone push her around and she has a great personality. She has some awesome goals set and always wins my heart. Has great taste in guys. Don't listen to what the other jack-off put. Everybody loves Karen.
If you were to look up the word "amazing" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Karen.

Yes sometimes God sends us little gems to keep us motivated! After reading this how could I NOT go out and conquer the world today?

A Lemon + Hardwork =Cupcakes x Fun + Sparkly Stuff

Wow can you believe that we're in July already?!  This last 90 days has been one long exciting roller coaster ride and I wouldn't have changed one minute of it!

Loved learning about Pecha Kucha (Chit Chat)! This new form of showcasing my knowledge and engaging with my audience was challenging and exhilarating. Loved the feedback that I'm still getting from my audience. I learned something else these past few weeks that eventually hard work and faith will pay off!

Two weeks after the Pecha Kucha event a friend of mine sent me a link to Southwired to advise that she was chosen as a speaker. While I was excited for her I was feeling a little melancholy as I too had applied and it was the #1 item on my 2nd quarter goal list and I had not heard back. But as I was looking for my friends picture and to see what here talk was going to be about, guess who's picture I saw on the page?! That's right my very own, Karen Rogers-Robinson aka SocialMMMDiva!  Don't believe me see for yourself.

Having goals and crushing them is one thing but you've gotta have friends too! And meeting a virtual friend in real life is a beautiful thing! I finally got to meet my friend WebAnna the creator of my #hashtag necklace...check out our photo below.

And now I'm off to turn those lemons into a lemon drop shot to be enjoyed while eating my cupcakes with friends dressed up in sparkly stuff! I hope you enjoy the pictures from Social Media Day Atlanta 2014!

O I forgot to tell you about the sparkly stuff! Well I was selected  as 1 of Atlanta's top 100 Social Media Leaders too! Check it out click the link and keep  scrolling till you see my pic! Don't forget to follow my blog to keep up with all of my foolishness!

Wow Where Did The Weekend Go!

What does a #Blerd do on the weekend catch up on Netflix and web-series of course! Here's my favorite web-series Codefellas!

And then I spoke with my Dad and son wishing them both a really awesome Father's Day!

Then people started posting that the weekend was done! Sheesh time to plan out this weeks blog & social network posts and apply for a few jobs. But as my new friend Nichelle @cupcakeblog was quoted as saying on Pecha Kucha night you can't be in a bad mood holding a cupcake! So even though the weekend went by in the blink if an eye! I am happy and ready for the challenges in the upcoming week; cupcake in hand!

Pecha Kucha, Pinot Grio and FOMO!

When I left you last it was just about to be my turn to present. So let me tell ya what happened. MAGIC happened that's what! God blessed me with his words and guided my tongue. Before they called my name I was soo anxious that I was about to drop out of the event all together. So glad that God intervened...listen the crowd loved my story of FOMO| The Mobile Device + An Ad Man=A Mad Man?! . When I get a chance I will add audio to the slides and upload for you to please understand it won't be the exact same presentation as the story I told last night was a gift from God,but I will do my best to re-create it.  Take a look at a few of my favorite tweets from the night and now I'm off to drink my second glass of Pinot Grio, this month!

Enjoy your weekend!

To Pecha Kucha Or Not To Pecha Kucha!

As I attempt to rise to the top of this Social Marketing Frontier, I've come to understand that just like in the days of the "Wild Wild West" no one and I mean NO ONE is past suspicion! People that you would have never dreamed of think of you as competition! With me being the ruthless competitor; her father raised her to be they really don't want to compete with me!

So anyhoo, as I entered the venue with every intention of backing out of the event. Who oh who do I see? Someone I know that has it in for me! And guess what?! Yep you guessed it they were trying to be a last minute participant in this evenings event! So I whispered to myself, "Tonight's the "BIG Night"! I'll be doing my 1st Pecha Kucha! And then I whispered to God, "Thanks for the motivation". And I know that you didn't bring me this far to fail! So here I go pushing through the fear and yes even the bravest of us sometimes (at the last minute)become fearful. But YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE or YOLO as the young folks say!

I hope you enjoy the pictures and please note that just as I coach my clients about every opportunity is a chance to spread your brand...I'm using the space on my shirt to tastefully promote my twitter handle (actually how you can find me on most social networks)!

And as my mother aka Itty Bitty says when we don't want to do something that we know we really want to do 1-2-3 it's showtime baby!

Lemon Martini Cupcakes & Accepting My Blerdiness

When I was a child people asked me why did I always try to "act white". I didn't know what they meant and would look back at them with a blank stare, and say WHAT?! As I got older people in college called me a "wannabe" because I didn't smoke weed, I actually went to class and did my homework.  As a new Telco employee the young ladies didn't speak to me because I came to work in a suit( as opposed to PJ's) and wait for it I worked! Actually volunteered for special projects, no less. Loved to read more than watch TV Octavia Butler was one of my fav's which made most think I was weird.

This has been my life over the years accused of being "bougie" , a "nerd" and everything but a child of Jesus! I tell ya! Anyway sometime late in the spring of 13 on twitter I found them!

That's right those known as BLERDS! Or Black Nerds aka Black Geeks MY PEOPLE! And now on Thursday nights I connect with THEM! And I eat lemon martini cupcakes and it's just freaking awesome! We talk about everything from Technology, News,Angela Davis, Maya Angelou, Thundercats, Gem and my new word & thing Afrofuturism! Not sure what the heck that is check out the definition below! Finally at almost 50 I found my people other blacks who reject living the stereotyped Boys in the Hood/Wire lifestyle!  This is ME doing "Black" MY way they BLERD way!

For me #AfroFuturism is depictions of the future involving the participation + contributions of the African diaspora #blerdchat

A Tribute To My Shero Dr. Maya Angelou

Last week America lost a living legacy Dr. Maya Angelou transcended to her spiritual journey and today us mere mortals laid her phenomenal human form to rest. You can watch some of that tribute here.

When I was a little girl, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Maya and I was mesmerized! She and Morrie Turner had come to school for "Black History Week"! Yes it was just a week back then....anyhoo ...

She was the first person out side of family that I wanted to be like. And I just had to tell her that! So when my teacher called on me (one of the few little black girls in my class) and said ,"Karen what do you want to be when you grow up?" I said, "I want to be just like Ms. Maya Angelou"! (at the time she wasn't Dr. Maya yet). Well, Ms. Maya Angelou said, "Chile be yourself! You'll be much more amazing that way"! Every since then it didn't hurt so much when the other Black kids told me I was "acting white", because in my head I was always saying they're just mad because I'm more amazing than they are!

Help honor Dr. Maya by signing the petition to have a stamp or stamps made with her image on it! Just click the link below and we're on our way!

Honor Dr, Maya everyday by, being yourself and be amazing!

Time Flies When You're Trying To Rise!

WOW can you believe it's June already?! Where did the time go? IDK but anyhoo let me catch you up so I landed a temp gig back with the Evil Corporate Telco Giant and guess what they aren't quite so evil anymore!! Or maybe they have just been humbled because they found out it's a DIGITAL WORLD and the young people aren't tryna be tied up with POTS(Plain Ole Telephone Service) anymore! So yea a Diva has been busy learning the new job, attending tweet chats, hosting tweet chats re-branding myself the "Sassie Awards" new transmedia agency "The Socially Haute"and best of all tryna get settled in the new spot! Oh yeah and as you can see from the picture the Doggy Diva is back baby!

Anyhoo life has been good so I guess that's why time has been flying by as I ascent to where I BELONG AT THE TOP!

Check out a few pic's from some of this years adventures below and if you want more head on over to my tumblr blog that is full of my sassie adventures! if the link doesn't work for you just copy and past this in your browser
